Those of you who read my “Oh, Baby!” post know I’m a huge fan of Etsy. Founded in 2005, this online community is made up of hundreds of thousands of artists in over 150 countries, each with their own online shop selling their wares. Jewelry, clothing, art, vintage, baked goods…there really isn’t anything you can’t find on Etsy. I should know. I’ve spent many, many (too many) hours browsing its offerings and never cease to be amazed and impressed.
And while the list of things I “Favorite” on Etsy is surely long enough to cause someone to question my definition of what a ‘favorite’ is, I came across an artist last night whose work actually inspired me to pull out my VISA at 11:30pm and purchase four canvases to hang in a bathroom that I have yet to even select a wall color for…or vanity or lighting, for that matter. Needless to say, I’ve been a little ‘blah’ about the bathroom design.
I digress.
The shop is All Things Grow. The artist is Marcy Davy. The work is beautiful. Marcy is a printmaker who works in both screen and relief processes. According to her web site, “Marcy interprets the natural world through the lens of her memories and experiences to create prints that are both modern and warm.” I quote that text simply because I couldn’t have said it better myself. From honeycombs and river rocks to plant leaves and birches, her work is a collection of simple, stunning snapshots of shapes and lines we see all too often…but have never seen quite like she does.
Thanks to Marcy, the bathroom is now well underway from a creative perspective. I’ve got some great colors to work with, I’ve got a style cue to use as a jumping off point…and I’ve got a new appreciation for the simple beauty of river rocks and starbursts.
So, yes, all things *do* grow. Including my love for Etsy.
